Ecological Land Classification

Ecosystem classification frameworks at the national, provincial and territorial level are the foundation for sustainable resource management across Canada. They provide a means of presenting and understanding landscapes in an ecological context, and they provide a common basis for communication between and within political jurisdictions. Timberline ecologists have worked in collaboration with provincial and territorial governments in Alberta, the Northwest Territories, and British Columbia to develop or revise classication systems that are employed for strategic planning and as the upper level of integration for both conventional and predictive ecosystem mapping.
